About the Founder

Rachael Alexandra is a dancer, choreographer, teacher, and visual artist based in the D.C. Metro area. Rachael is best known for her theatrical approach to choreography, which can be seen in her works including "Songs My Mother Taught Me" (2019), "Choose Your Own Adventure" (2022), “There is a Season” (2023), and “Black Dancing Bodies” (2024). Rachael has worked with many exceptional artists in the DMV, including Alvin Mayes, Karen Reedy, Erica Rebollar, Roberta Rothstein, and Sinclair Imoghene, as well as danced with LightSwitch Dance Theatre and Uprooted Dance. She is working toward obtaining her MFA in Dance at Hollins University.

Rachael founded the Platform Black Dance Festival as part of an Independent Study project for her graduate program.
